This privacy statement covers the Media & Editorial Projects (MEP) web site for the publication Discover Trinidad & Tobago at www.discovertnt.com. MEP values its web users’ privacy, and does not sell or rent any information collected about its website users, or share such information with third parties without your consent or unless where required by law.
There are two types of user information collected on our website:
1. Information we request and which users choose to share with us when registering to be a part of the site’s community; signing up for our e-newsletters; ordering a copy of the magazine; sending a page to a friend; or sending us email
2. Information collected by our servers as you interact with our site (like IP address, browser, etc.), whether as a non-registered visitor or registered community member
Users signing up for or ordering any of our site’s products or services are required to provide certain necessary information in order to process your request. This information is used for:
1. Maintaining account information for registered users and/or newsletter subscribers, who can then manage their user profiles and account preferences (including modifying or cancelling their accounts, or unsubscribing from our newsletter)
2. Filling customers’ orders, and to contact the user if there is any problem with the order.
Our data collection practices are geared primarily toward improving our site visitors’ and regisistered users’ experience of the web site, and to deliver content, products and services that are relevant to our site visitors.
We use “cookies” to allow us to identify you as a unique user when you visit the site from the same computer and browser. By default, these cookies are stored for 20 minutes if no activity is performed by the user. They are cleared once the user quits the browser, and each user can modify or disable cookie functionality within their browser.
Site visitors may register with the site to be able to rate and comment on articles. To delete their account, a user need only email us to complete the process. Any information associated with their accounts (e.g. comments) will be associated only with an anonymous user.
We use external services to provide our e-newsletter, serve online advertisements, facilitate article sharing (via email or social networking platforms) and to process orders. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes outside of facilitating your direct relationship with us. In serving relevant advertising to our visitors, we may share aggregated anonymous demographic information with our partners and advertisers, but this data is not personally identifiable.
Our site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that MEP is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this MEP site.
Though we make every effort to preserve our users’ privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our website.
Please also remember that no data transmission over the internet, or by any other means, can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal data and have secured the site against XFS and SQL injection attacks, MEP cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us. Once we receive your data, we use reasonable efforts to ensure the information you provide is secure and not readily available to unauthorised individuals or third parties.
