Where to stay in Trinidad: our accommodation guide

Whether you’ll feel most comfortable at international hotel chains or at home-grown brands — or if prefer homey B&Bs, rustic eco escapes and more, we’ve got you covered. Here are our picks for where to stay in Trinidad for 2020, no matter what your needs or budget!

Rest & recharge

You’ll find something lovely to suit nearly every budget and preference in Trinidad. All the high-end hotels feature sought-after amenities, like top-class restaurants and excellent pool, gym, business and conference facilities.

Prices & availability

Hotel rooms average US$165–260 a night, and guesthouses $75–105. Availability is usually good, except around Carnival and major conferences or events, where prices can increase significantly.

International brands offering luxury in the capital & beyond

Several international brands take pride of place in and around Port of Spain, and near the airport. Shimmering against the waterfront downtown, the recently upgraded Hyatt Regency Trinidad offers views of the Gulf of Paria, a range of dining options, a roof-top pool, and luxurious on-site spa. There is a Radisson across the road, boasts a revolving restaurant at the top; while the Courtyard by Marriott — situated just west of Port of Spain along the coast — is a draw for business travellers who can pop into MovieTowne next door for a bit of shopping, dining, or entertainment. Further uptown, the also recently upgraded Hilton Trinidad & Conference Centre offers its own stunning views from its perch above the Queen’s Park Savannah. Five minutes from the airport, Trincity Mall, and a world-class golf course, you’ll find the Holiday Inn Express & Suites.

Local standouts (hotels & guesthouses)

Southern charms

Down south in San Fernando, Tradewinds has both nightly hotel and monthly residency options, while the charming Royal Hotel islocated just around the corner from the entrance to San Fernando Hill, and the Cara Suites Hotel & Conference Centre overlooks Claxton Bay.

Northern lights

The recently upgraded Normandie Hotel (St Ann’s) is a boutique hotel with extensive entertainment and business facilities. The Kapok boutique hotel (St Clair, close to the Savannah) has also benefited from a recent upgrade and offers a range of amenities, with superb views of the Queen’s Park Savannah.

Gems of the east, jewels of the west

Out west in Chaguaramas, the Crews Inn Hotel & Yachting Centre brings you close to nature while still in striking distance of the capital. Near the airport are the Grand Diamond Trinidad, Piarco Village Suites, and the Monte Cristo Inn. A bit further north is the Xanadu Tropical Resort (Arouca). Academic visitors and researchers will appreciate the recent addition of the University Inn at the University of the West Indies’ campus in St Augustine.

Beloved boutiques, B&Bs, and beyond

Among the most popular guesthouses, B&Bs, and self-catering options are La Allamanda (Woodbrook); Travel Suites, and The Inn at 87 (Newtown); Forty Winks Inn (Port of Spain); Thanna’s Place and Savannah Maison Guest House (Belmont); Kiskadee Korner (St Clair); Crosswinds Villa Bed & Breakfast (Santa Cruz); Culture Crossroads Inn (St James); Willard’s Bed and Breakfast (El Dorado); and the Coblentz Inn, Heritage Inn, and L’Orchidée Guesthouse (Cascade).
